The Gulf Snapping Turtle (Lavarackorum elseya) is an animal
previously thought to have been long extinct. There is some possibility
that this photograph taken in Lawn Hill Gorge is such a turtle.
Wildlife in the Gulf of Carpentaria include brolgas, pelicans
and other birds by the thousand, bats (by the million), crocodiles, dugong,
feral pigs, brumbies, wallabies and many more native and exotic creatures.
